melodrama obama

Last Wednesday the President of the United States, Barack Obama, addressed the nation regarding the current national security threat by the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant, or ISIL (also known as the Islamic State, and ISIS). His thesis being something along the lines of "in order to protect our nation the United States must take military action against the ISIL terrorist group," and throughout his speech he continues to explain how terrible these people are, and what we are going to do to stop it.

Igniting the flame under the Team America hot air-ballon Obama evoked the emotions of the audience by showing the brutality of the ISIL. Avowing that the ISIL shows “acts of barbarism” which include the “killings of innocents,” “genocide,” and the executions of the “American Journalists — Jim Foley and Steven Sotloff” cuts deep into the hearts of Americans. He also references how he “took out Osama bin Laden,” and “much of Al Qaeda’s leadership” within the past year, and he reminds the audience that the Obama Administration has been successful at protecting our nation,  doing his best to gain the audiences trust. Revealing his plan to “ultimately destroy ISIL,” Obama explains how a systematic approach of “airstrikes against these terrorists” that does not involve “fighting on foreign soil” is the best way to approach it he also makes comparisons to 911 showing how since then they are the “greatest threats” and in order to keep our nation safe we must enact the “counterterrorism strategy”.

Though not all Americans will agree with Obamas decision and plan of action, when it comes down to it, all he really needs is Congresses approval right?

Wrong.

According to ABC News "The White House" says that Obama "does not need Congressional approval for expanded strikes against ISIS in Iraq and possibly Syria" apparently he already "has this authority" under the "2001 Authorization for Military Force against Al Qaeda" which was passed by Congress after 9/11.

Decide for yourself if this is the right thing to do, on one hand we will be potentially saving ourselves and millions of others but on the other hand we are going about it in a way that does not lend to Obamas credibility. It also should be taken into account that there are issues here in the US that need to be fixed as well.
